Education

The NAACP strives to eliminate education-related racial and ethnic disparities.

The Education Committee works to ensure all students in the Greater Longview area have access to an equal and high-quality public education by: promoting school resource equity; increasing teacher quality; promoting parent engagement, and; enhancing early childhood literacy initiatives.

We work to reduce undue placement of minority youth in special education programs. We promote affirmative action and funding equity in higher education. We lobby to maintain and expand financial aid and PELL grants for higher education.

Youth and College

The NAACP believes strongly that future leaders must be developed today, and such development is ongoing in the Youth & College Division, created in 1936. Today there are more than 25,000 young people, under the age of 25, representing 700 Youth Councils, High School Chapters and College Chapters actively involved in the fight for civil rights. The NAACP has one of the largest organized groups of young people of any secular organization in the country.

Scholarship and Loan Application Information

Scholarships- Each year the NAACP, through generous donations, is able to provide scholarships to outstanding students. It is the duty of our dedicated Scholarship Committee to determine the most outstanding individuals to receive these awards. The NAACP does not provide financial aid to individuals, only scholarships through this process.

Texas B-On-Time Loan (BOT)

This is a no-interest loan for eligible Texas Students. If the borrower meets certain requirements, then the entire loan amount can be forgiven upon graduation. The State of Texas funds the loan.
